A LITTLE (actually a lot!) OF INFO ABOUT LIFE CHURCH MOTHER'S DAY OUT! If you are looking for a place for your little ones to learn and make new friends...please consider us! LIFE CHURCH 4600 Jimmy Johnson Blvd Port Arthur, TX 77642 409-853-1068 MINISTRY PURPOSE The Early Childhood Education Program is a ministry of Life Church. The purpose is two-fold. We minister to parents, grandparents, and guardians by providing a “day out” and time of refreshment. We also minister to the family and their children by providing a happy, loving, and Christ-centered environment for children. It is our goal for each child to increase in his or her knowledge of God, laying a foundation to live a life in line with the Word of God. CURRICULUM Our program provides a variety of positive learning experiences through loving relationships and happy times at church. Children engage in daily activities such as art time, story time, Bible lessons, outside or gym play, science exploration, finger plays, beginning math skills, language/literacy experiences, and dramatic play. Your child will have opportunities for self-expression and freedom of choice. Well-equipped classrooms with learning centers are designed to help young children learn through discovery. We organize our teaching through “units of learning”. These units are developmentally appropriate for the children that are under our care. The activities will look a lot like play—the way children learn—but they also teach skills, spiritual truths and introduce children to the joy of learning! Children will hear Bible stories each day. They will also have a time where they are encouraged to worship God through music. This time may use CD music, or the children may play simple musical instruments. We believe that we were created to praise our God! TEACHING STAFF Our teachers are committed to sharing Christ’s love with each child in our care. They are committed to exhibit His love and devotion to Him in all areas of life. They share in the heart of this ministry to love and care for the child/family. All teachers are committed to meet each MDO morning to pray for daily needs, their students and fellow teachers. As our program grows, additional teachers may be hired or moved into different classrooms to accommodate changing needs. Parents will be kept up to date on all changes and should know with confidence the very best are placed in teaching positions. OUR CALENDAR Our program follows the PNGISD calendar except for the starting and ending dates. We will follow the PNGISD for Thanksgiving, Christmas, President's Day, Spring Break, and Teacher-In-Services. PROGRAM TIME/Pick-up and Delivery of Children Our program will be on Monday's, Tuesday’s and Thursday’s from 9am-2pm. The arrival time of children is within 5 minutes of the scheduled time. Please help us by being neither early nor late! Many of our teachers also have children that attend public school and they need to be able to leave to get their kids from school too! All parents are responsible for their children in the hallway. Please keep your child near you when you are walking to and from the classroom. For safety sake, children are required to be signed in and out by the parent or guardian everyday at the child’s classroom door. Teachers will be unable to care for your children prior to 9am, they are busy getting ready for your child’s daily activities. Please be prompt in picking up your children. Children get anxious and worried when all their classmates are being picked up and they are not. They feel like they have been left and forgotten. Of course, we will never leave your child unattended! Please call if you realize that you will be late for any reason. CUSTODY: The parent/guardian that enrolls the child in MDO and signs the agreement/release form has the right to say who may or may not pick up the child from Mother’s Day Out. There is a place on the enrollment form to list all persons allowed to pick up the child. The MDO staff will verify names and valid driver’s licenses with the list. Any changes needing to be made concerning the release of your child must be given to the Classroom Teacher in writing by the parent/guardian. Your child WILL NOT be released to anyone other than the parent or guardian unless we are notified in writing. Children will not be released to minors. It is the school’s intent to meet the needs of children especially when the parents may be experiencing difficult situations such as divorce, separation, or remarriage. However, the school cannot legally restrict the non-custodial parent from visiting the child or reviewing the child’s records. HEALTH: Each child is required to have on file a health statement which includes a record of up-to-date immunizations. Each child must have on file a signed permission authorizing emergency care and transfer to a local hospital. Emergency numbers for reaching the parent or guardian and another authorized person must also be on file. A child who arrives at a school noticeably ill, with a rash, or with a fever, WILL NOT be admitted for that day. Should a child become ill during the day, the parent is notified immediately. If you cannot be reached, someone on your emergency care form will be contacted. Make sure these people know that you have listed them as an emergency contact number and please list people who would be available to pick up your child in an emergency. If any child leaves school due to illness, that child may not return for at least 24 hours or until he/she is without symptoms for 24 hours. MEDICATION: If a child is on medication and needs the school to administer the medicine, please know that medicine will be administered according to original label directions. A parent must sign the medicine consent form when delivering the medication to the Teacher. All medicine administered will be documented. ALLERGIES/COMMUNICABLE DISEASES Please tell your child’s teacher of any allergies. Because of the high frequency of peanut allergies, we ask that you DO NOT bring any type food products into the building that contain nuts. Parents will be notified when their child has been exposed to a communicable disease (ex: pink eye, chicken pox, etc…) while attending MDO. Parents/guardians should likewise notify the Teacher immediately when their child has been exposed to a communicable disease. The child will be restricted to attend until a doctor states that it is safe for the child to return to school MEDICAL EMERGENCY PROCEDURES If a child gets hurt, we will first ensure the safety of the child and then we will notify the parent. If the injury is not serious, we will notify the parent when the child is picked up. Less serious injuries include, but are not limited to minor cuts, scratches, and bites from other children requiring first aide. You will receive an “ouch” report. If critical illness or injury requires immediate attention of a physician, the Teacher or Overseer will contact 911, give the child first-aid treatment or CPR is needed, contact the physician identified in the child’s record and contact the child’s parent. CELL PHONES: There is to be NO use of cell phones while driving in our parking lot. Please drive slowly! Watch for children at all times! ENTERING THE BUILDING: There is one door that will remain unlocked during pick up and drop off times, but 30 minutes after the program has begun, the doors will be locked to outsiders. There will be a “doorbell” system in place if you need to visit for any reason during the day. This is just another way that we can help to keep your children safe. CLASSROOM GUIDELINES: SCHEDULE: Each child will maintain a guideline of daily activities so the day runs smoothly. Your child will also grow to appreciate the routine. A schedule will be posted in the classroom as well as a copy given to the parents. Times are approximate. SNACKS: A small snack and juice will be provided mid-morning to the children. These snacks will be nutritious such as fruit cups, pudding cups, variety of crackers, etc… Please make teachers aware of food allergies. LUNCH: Children are to bring their own nutritious lunch. It should be finger foods or easy to eat items that do not need to be microwaved or refrigerated. NO carbonated drinks and NO glass containers. Parents are to understand that we are not responsible for the nutritional value of the lunch or for meeting the child’s daily food needs. To prevent choking incidents, grapes and wieners must be cut in half lengthwise. NOTE: WE ARE A PEANUT FREE FACILITY! DRESS: Because learning can be “messy”, we ask that you send your child in play clothes. We love your CHILD, we aren’t concerned if they are dressed “cute”! We want them to be comfortable as they learn! Your child will also need to wear close-toed shoes to help keep them from tripping. They will be doing lots of climbing and running and we want to keep them safe. We will go outside daily, weather permitting, so your children need to have appropriate outer wear. If the weather is too cold or too hot or rainy, we will have playtime in the gym. If your child is not well enough to play outside, he/she will need to remain at home. PLEASE BRING THESE THINGS EVERYDAY: - a full change of clothes in a backpack EVERYDAY to MDO (pants, undies, shirt, socks). Label EACH ITEM! -a sleep mat, small blanket, travel size pillow -a backpack/diaper bag with a full change of clothes -lunch -2 drinks in w different spill-proof, closeable sippy cup. PLEASE DO NOT BRING: -candy, gum, coins, small pieces to toys, carbonated drinks -balloons for children under 3 years old -toys (unless it is a sleeping partner) -expensive or sentimental jewelry or keepsakes -peanut butter, peanuts, or foods containing peanuts NAP/REST TIME: For the infant class, baby beds are provided. Toddler/PreSchoolers/Pre-K children will be required to rest on their nap mats for the allotted time. They are not required to sleep. A quiet activity may be provided while others sleep. An appropriate, G-rated movie may also be played during this time for older children. POTTY TRAINING: We do not have requirements regarding children to be potty trained by a certain age/class. Teachers will assist children as needed in their toilet training needs. For those currently being potty trained, please share with the teacher special needs and requests. All efforts will be made to aid in the potty training process. We do ask that those that are not completely potty trained to wear pull-ups! CLASS PARTIES/BIRTHDAYS We will be happy to celebrate your child’s birthday with their class! You may provide PEANUT FREE treats during snack time to celebrate. Teachers will try to coordinate the snack schedule according to the week closest to the child’s birthday. Children with summer birthdays are welcome to pick a day to celebrate in the year. Please arrange all details with the teacher. We will celebrate many holidays with your child; however, Halloween is not one of them. We DO NOT celebrate Halloween in any way at Life Church. We also do not celebrate Easter with Easter eggs or bunny rabbits. (We celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus instead!) We will have a Thanksgiving Feast, Christmas Party, Valentine Party, and an End of the Year Party. There will be sign-up sheets in your child’s room because we count on the parents to provide the party items and treats! Parties will be held at lunchtime! MINISTRY PROJECTS Throughout the year, we will participate in outreach projects in some form. The children, taking an active role in helping others, will experience firsthand the spiritual truths taught such as giving, loving others and putting others first. Ministry project information will be sent home in the monthly newsletter. DISCIPLINE Our main objective is to love your child as Jesus does. Our discipline will be positive and will encourage children to make good choices instead of punishment. Should a problem arise, corrective measures of a verbal reminder, restriction of privileges’ or a brief time-out will be used by the teacher. Should a child demonstrate a more aggressive or disruptive behavior the parent will be contacted, and the MDO staff will work together with the parent to solve the problem. Aggressive or disruptive behavior must not be overlooked because it sends a message to the other students in our care that this is acceptable. A child needs to know that it is never “okay” to hurt another child or adult. If at any time the MDO staff observes behavior that puts the child, another child or the staff’s physical safety or well-being in jeopardy, MDO reserves the right to remove that child from the program. If you do have any concerns about your child, please feel free to talk with the teacher. We will refrain from talking about the child in their presence but will be happy to coordinate a set aside time to discuss any issues. COMMUNICATION: We strive to work with your family in partnership to love and teach your child. Please feel free to talk with your child’s teacher or with the Overseer. A monthly newsletter will be sent home with upcoming events and important information. This is the primary means of communicating information. It will also include what the class will be learning. All correspondence including class papers will be sent home in a folder provided for your child. Please open and read papers at the end of each MDO day. Return the folder with your child each day. FEES AND MONTHLY TUITION There is a registration fee of $50 per child/family and is non-refundable and non-transferable. To ensure a place for your child, early registration is wise, as enrollment is based on order of registration and availability for each age group. There is also a ONE TIME CRAFT FEE of $80 that is not due until the semester begins in August. Tuition is due on or before the first class day of each month, August through May. Checks should be made payable to LIFE CHURCH and given to Mrs. Lori or Mrs. Gloria. PLEASE REMEMBER that our monthly fee is a PRO-RATED monthly rate. BY REGISTERING YOUR CHILD FOR OUR PROGRAM, YOU ARE MAKING A COMMITMENT TO A 9-MONTH SCHOOL PROGRAM FOR YOUR CHILD. MONTHLY TUITION: $140...2-days a week $180....3 days a week The program is intended to be a commitment from September-May. Tuition is due monthly and credit is not given for a child’s absence. This includes childhood illness, family vacations and holidays. Teachers have been employed and our income must have continuity. Absence and non-payment of tuition for an entire month without notification constitutes withdrawal from the program. Re-enrollment after withdrawal will be treated as a new enrollment and applicable fees will be applied. Parents will be notified when tuition is past due. Tuition past due after the 15th of the month will be subject to a $10 late fee, and past the 25th, a letter will be sent home stating the child may not attend until the account is current. The child’s place in the class will be lost without making arrangements with the Administrator. WITHDRAWAL: If for any reason you decide to withdraw your child from the program, please notify the Administrator immediately. We ask no less than two weeks notice given to the Administrator. Our budget is based on the tuition income, and advanced notice will assist us in balancing the operating expenses. LIFE CHURCH Education Building Emergency Preparedness Plan In case of fire, bad weather, or other emergency situations, Life Church Children’s Ministry will act as follows: FIRE: All staff and students will exit the building according to the evacuation plan and then walk across the field next to the Ed. Bldg until they are on the balk half of the field. Teachers will take their backpack containing Emergency Medical and Designated Pick-Up Forms for each child in their classroom. Backpacks will also have sign-in/out clipboard. Each staff member will bring her cell phone to the location. A face to name child count will be done. Once safe, staff will use their cell phones to contact parents to pick up students immediately. SEVERE WEATHER: Tornado/Severe Weather—All students and staff will be moved to the interior hallway of the Ed. Bldg, away from the exit doors. Classroom doors will be closed. They will stay there until the threat is over. If electricity goes out, the parents will be contacted to pick up their children immediately. Hurricane/Snow/Ice—We will follow PNGISD closing procedure. Parents will watch local news to discover school closures. The student handbook reflects this policy.
